Investigation B

Look at the examples in the associated material of split information activities for primary mathematics and secondary science. In these examples, the students communicate and evaluate information in pairs or small groups. The activities involve writing as well as speaking. Follow these models to construct an activity using your own curriculum material.

  1. Observe how, as they communicate their information to each other, the students engage in noticing , metatalk , hypothesis testing , requesting and offering feedback on language usage, and demonstrating uptake of new language.
  2. Observe how the students use important vocabulary related to this curriculum topic.
    Do they:
    • use correct terms?
    • use simpler or less exact words?
    • manage (or not) to find words to express themselves adequately?
