How do we use language in school?
These inquiries investigate how interaction and discourse patterns in the classroom can affect learning opportunities, and how caring and inclusive learning communities can be created in the classroom between peers as well as between teacher and students.
Effective learning environments for all students ensure that:
- there is a focus on important features of language
- students process language forms and meaning
- students know what they are doing and why.
Effective learning environments for bilingual students also enable those students to:
- use both their languages in increasingly complex ways.
